With the newbies, ‘lace front’ is certainly a term they came across and refer many times before entering the world of wigs and toppers. Regardless of the style you wear, hair color, or skin tone, many people love lace front wigs because of their versatility and believability. They range from synthetic lace front wigs to human hair lace front wigs, curly lace front wigs, short and bobbed lace front wigs, and more. Let us help answer your top question about this popular wig construction: How to wear lace front wigs?
What is a lace front wig?
“Lace front” is a term referring to wig construction that uses a sheer lace attachment at the front of the wig to which human hair or synthetic hair has been hand tied. Lace front wigs and toppers are very popular because they so successfully look like natural growing hair, making it quite difficult to identify them as a wig while we are wearing it.
So do you know what benefits does lace bring to wig construction? The delicate and thin nature of lace allows it to fall right over the forehead that creates very little, to no space, between wig and skin. It is breathable, with the pattern of the lace encouraging air flow. It is sheer, it creates a barely-there transition that supports off the face styling. And it is also versatile when offering the users the ability to style and change the part while still retaining a natural hairline.

Conduct A Skin Test
The first step is determining whether you have any sensitivity to your adhesive. Apply a small amount to a sensitive part of your skin, it can be inside your elbow or behind your ear. Leave it there for at least about 15 minutes, then remove. If there is any irritation or redness, do not use that adhesive and select a different one. If there is no irritation, you can continue.
Flatten Your Hair To Your Head
Before you put on your lace front wig, you will have to prepare your hair first. If you have little or no hair, you will need to have a wig liner to help keep your wig secure. If your hair is short, simply brush it back, away from your face. With longer hair, pin it up by making flat pin curls out of sections of your hair. Remember to keep them distributed evenly over your head to avoid bumps and bulges.
Prepare Your Skin For The Wig
Wash your forehead, remember to pay close attention to the hairline with a gentle cleanser. Blot dry. Use a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad and wipe along your hairline to get rid of excess oil. If you have sensitive skin, apply a scalp-protecting serum to the area after the rubbing alcohol. Let both dry before continuing.
Fit The Wig.
(If your wig is a new brand follow step 4. Unless, proceed to Step 5)
To fit the lace front wig, hold it close to the label, tilt your head slightly forward, place it to your forehead, and in a front to back motion, slip the lace front wig on as you would need a bathing cap. Continuously, tilt head upright and push the front of the wig back until it aligns with your natural hairline. Tuck in any stray hairs. If you feel pressure around your scalp, the wig may be too tight. If, when you move your head and the wig moves independently, it means the wig is too loose. Use the adjustable Velcro straps inside the wig to loosen or tighten as you need.
Apply Wig Tape Or Glue.
There are two types of adhesive on the market you can use to secure a lace front wig to your head: tape or glue. We recommend trying both and deciding which you prefer after.
Put double stick tape on your forehead, start mid-forehead and work out. Lay the strips side by side until they cover most of your hairline.
OR
Apply glue along hairline, make sure that it’s evenly spread, then let it dry for approximately 3 minutes.
THEN
Place the lace front wig on head, make sure it matches your hairline.
Check both ear tabs for alignment.
Use your fingertips, smooth wig over tape or glue, work from center out to your ears.
Style the wig: Human hair lace front wigs may be styled with regular brushes and heat styling tools. Synthetic wigs may be styled with wide-toothed combs or wig brushes.
